The IRS will host an October webcast on its Office of Professional Responsibility, the office that deals with standards of competence and conduct for tax professionals practicing before the IRS and the "Circular 230" requirements for those tax practitioners. It will be on the October Tax Talk Today program entitled “The ABCs of OPR,” Tuesday, October 16, at 2 p.m. ET. It's likely the topics will be similar to OPR discussions at the Vancouver ABA Tax Section meeting, where the newly released changes to Circular 230 and monetary penalties were hot items.
Panelists are Michael Chesman, Director, IRS Office of Professional Responsibility; Deborah Butler, IRS, Associate Chief Counsel, Procedure and Administration; Mark Kaizan, IRS, Associate Chief Counsel, General Legal Services; and Pamela Olson, a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and former Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
According to the IRS news release, viewers who want to "attend" the webcast need only register online, at no charge, at www.TaxTalkToday.tv.
