Mark Mazur, a long-term government economist, has been selected by President Obama as Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, a position that has not had a Senate-confirmed appointee since Obama took office. Michael Mundaca, who filled the post on an interim basis, left in May to join Ernst & Young. Mazur is an economist by training who was a tax analyst with General Motors before his career in government. He was the director of the IRS division of research and analysis from 2001 to 2009, when he was appointed deputy assistant secretary for tax analysis.
